Respond
The magnitude of Mary’s role in the Christmas story can’t be overstated. Giving birth to the Son of God was a huge deal in and of itself. But her pregnancy also threatened her life and livelihood, because an unmarried girl who became pregnant was at risk of homelessness. Mary knew all this when she heard Gabriel’s news, yet her response defied human logic: “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”

Our faith won’t be tested to the same degree Mary’s was, but following Jesus always calls us to step out in risky and logic-defying ways. The question is, will we respond with trust like Mary did?

Take some time right now to reflect on anything God might be asking you to trust Him in. Maybe He’s calling you to take a risk or step out of your comfort zone so others can see who He is more clearly. Thank Him for the honor of being His servant, and ask Him to fill you with greater trust to do His will.
