Serving with Wheeler Mission
One of our strategic partners, Wheeler Mission, serves the homeless community in Indianapolis. We recently connected with them and learned of the increasing need for your help in making a difference in our community. Here are their most critical needs currently:
Sack Lunches – Non-perishable sack lunches are needed to have on-hand for guests and staff at Wheeler Mission. Gather your group safely distanced or over Zoom or recruit your family to pack some lunches! Here’s what’s needed: purchase items from the list below, package the items, and drop them off at a specified location. You can connect directly with Wheeler Mission to arrange drop-off or for more information!
Items needed for sack lunches:
- Non-perishable protein (ex: single serve pop-top Vienna sausage or tuna pouch)
- Single serve fruit cup
- Granola Bar
- Single serve pack of peanut butter or cheese crackers
- Fruit snack or candy
- Water or juice pouch
- Brown bags
Homemade masks are needed for each guest that comes in and out of the Wheeler Mission facility. If you have the ability to make masks, you can connect with Taranza Brown.
Volunteer in-person – While Wheeler Mission was set to open for volunteers on June 1, the demonstrations downtown brought damage to some of their properties. In-person volunteer opportunities are still open and they have more urgent in-person volunteer needs to fulfill. To get involved, you can connect directly with Wheeler Mission here.
Foster and Adoption Ministry
Consistent with our vision lane of helping vulnerable children, we have created an Amazon Wish List containing essential items and food gift cards that foster families in our city currently need. Check out the Amazon Wish List.
Notes: Items on this list are in high demand and may not be available when you first look, please check back if that’s the case. Traders Point is only accepting deliveries on Tuesdays and Thursdays at this time. If your item is set to be delivered another day, it will be delayed and we will receive the item the next Tuesday or Thursday.
Thank you for your ongoing generosity! We want to share a couple stories we can celebrate!
Masks for our city
Our church, in partnership with 13 other churches in Indy, were able to quickly to secure 200,000 N-95-type masks to provide to hospitals and medical professionals in Indy that are in desperate need of these types of masks. These masks—called KN95 masks—have been approved by Indiana state health officials as a mask that could be donated to hospitals.
The responses we’ve received from medical professionals have been overwhelming—we’ve heard from so many saying thank you for securing these masks and providing them to hospitals and medical professionals who are having to re-use masks because there aren’t enough. Check out this update from Aaron!
Aiding vulnerable children
We were contacted by a local DCS office asking us for help to provide essential safety gear that the staff needed to enable them to serve their families and we immediately acted to meet this need.
Food for families
In March, we collected non-perishable food and were able to donate more than 6,000 items to three food banks who serve families in need throughout central Indiana.
First responder care and support
We know there are medical professionals and first responders on the front lines of this crisis and we want to find unique ways to serve them and be a blessing. Working with local organizations, we have opened our Downtown campus to have childcare for medical professionals affiliated with these organizations. We are looking for more opportunities to continue serving them.
