Respond
King Nebuchadnezzar was disturbed, which prompted harsh demands. He didn’t merely want an interpretation of his dream; he wanted proof that the astrologers truly had divine power. In the end, they didn’t. Their response proved as hollow as their gods, setting up a dilemma that could only be solved by the one true God.

In our own lives, it can be easy to put our hope in hollow gods as well. Wealth, power, success, human logic – they can all seem to provide answers for a while. But in the end, they can’t compare to knowing the one true God. His wisdom and understanding outmatches anything this world could offer.

Are you placing your trust in anything hollow right now? Outside of the one true God, what do you rely on most to give you answers or hope? Spend some time in prayer, confessing what comes to mind. Thank God for being living, active, and intimately connected with your life. No matter what comes, commit to turning to Him first for answers and hope.

Want to go deeper? Read about another ruler with disturbing dreams 1,000 years prior to Nebuchadnezzar. How did Pharaoh’s “wise men” respond versus the young man of God who was later called in?
