Respond
Mary and Martha valued different aspects of hosting Jesus in their home. Mary focused on Jesus while Martha focused on the details of the meal she would prepare for Him. When Martha asked Jesus to back her up, He lovingly and gently redirected her focus away from the details and toward Himself as the guest.

This passage can teach us many lessons, but one thing it demonstrates is Jesus’ heart to teach and guide us. He desires to lead us in truth because He cares about our growth. The Psalms tell us that God’s Word is a lamp for our feet — a guide for us to follow Him. Jesus wants to gently redirect us to a way of living that allows the Holy Spirit to produce fruit in our lives.

Is there a specific area where you need redirection from God? Are you putting too much weight on something that isn’t as important in His eyes? Take a few minutes to reflect, and ask God to reveal anything that needs to be redirected. Then take a step to focus on Him.
