Globally and right here in Indianapolis, a distressing number of children are abused, abandoned or neglected. Foster care faces a nationwide crisis, and Indiana ranks fifth for the number of kids in the system at 12,000. The demand for stable, loving homes far outpaces the supply. Limited resources and manpower leave basic needs unmet.

Together, we can make a difference. The church can have a massive sustainable impact on the foster and adoption crisis.

Whether you're just beginning to explore this calling or looking for ways to get involved, this class will help you understand the heart behind the mission and discover practical next steps you can take.

Foster Care & Adoption Resources

Foster and adoptive parents, we see you and acknowledge the incredible work you're doing! We're here to support you with a variety of resources in the Indianapolis area, including wraparound support, handyman services, and support groups.

Receive Support

Our Resource Center at the Northwest campus provides brand-new items at no cost to foster families to help with new child placements. Items include diapers, wipes, car seats, beds, and baby gear.

Care Communities offer foster and adoptive families emotional, spiritual, and physical support. A team of volunteers rallies around the family to provide practical support, such as childcare, tutoring, and meals.

Trauma Education gives foster and adoptive families the tools and resources needed to parent kids from hard places. While parenting children who have experienced trauma can be scary, trauma education can help you succeed! Traders Point partners with Trauma Free World to offer free trauma education to those serving vulnerable children.

Trauma Free World

Financial grants support foster and adoptive families, helping to eliminate some of the financial burden.

*Foster grants: Foster families can apply for a grant to help cover out-of-pocket expenses such as childcare, schooling, trauma education, counseling (for parents or children), and extracurricular activities.

*Adoption grants: Adoptive families can apply for a grant to help with costs associated with international and domestic adoptions. Any single person or couple who has attended Traders Point for one year or longer and is actively engaged at the church is eligible for the grant. An application is submitted to Lifesong for Orphans who reviews the application. Once a decision is made, Lifesong will forward their decision to our Foster & Adoption Ministry for final acceptance. Traders Point currently awards matching grants up to $2,000.

Embarking on the journey of foster care can be both rewarding and challenging. Our Foster Parent Mentor Program is designed to support new foster families by pairing them with experienced foster parents who have walked this path before. Through mentorship, encouragement, and practical guidance, seasoned foster parents will come alongside new families to help them navigate the complexities of foster care. Whether it’s understanding the system, managing transitions, or finding emotional support, our mentors provide a trusted connection to help foster families thrive as they offer love and stability to vulnerable children.

Apply

The Handyman Team is available to serve foster families by helping with general household tasks. Depending on the volume of requests received, you can expect approximately 1 day of work every 90 days. Foster parents pay for the cost of materials needed for the task, and this does not include emergency repairs.

Request Help

All foster and adoptive families are invited to join us on the 4th Monday of each month from 5-7 PM at The Park. The Park is an indoor playground at our Northwest location. This is a FREE event for foster and adoptive families. Let your kids play, and get to know other foster and adoptive families. Feel free to bring your own dinner. We will have free resources available for you. No need to register, just show up!

Men's and Women's Support Group meet monthly to provide community and care to individuals fostering or adopting. This is a safe space to share and process alongside other people going through similar life situations. Women's Support Group meets the 2nd Monday of each month from 7-9 pm in the Point. The Men's Group meets the 4th Monday of each month from 7-9 pm in the Point.
