This week in Daily Bible Reading, we’ve been reading some of our Mother’s Day guest’s favorite verses, centered around the themes she shared with us on Sunday. If you missed her conversation with Aaron Brockett, check it out here.
Read Romans 12:9-13 in your personal Bible or at the link provided.
Review
1. What instructions are given in these verses?
2. What instructions are given as it relates to other people?
3. What do these things require of us?
Reflect
Today’s reading is a crash course on how to stay connected in community, intentionally loving other people through words and actions. It’s not surface level. It goes much deeper – honoring, serving, rejoicing together, praying, helping, and welcoming. This is what we’re called to give and receive.
If you’re walking through something difficult, be willing to accept help. This means letting go of control of things you normally have control over. You don’t have to do all and be all. Remember that our God is a multiplier. Give Him what you have, and watch what He can do. Often He does His best work through others who step in with genuine love.
If you’re not currently walking through something difficult, how can you step in to help someone who is? Could you help with tasks like meals, errands, home maintenance, or cleaning? They may seem small, but our God can multiply them in that person’s life so they’re free to focus their time and energy elsewhere. No matter where you’re at in life, stay connected. We need each other.
Respond
Based on today’s reading, what do you think God is prompting you to do in response? Write it down, share it with a friend, and take a step to start making it happen.
