A decree was issued, but three men didn’t obey. When told to worship a gold statue, they stayed standing, drawing attention to themselves. Other men reported to the king what happened, ratting out the rebels. The three men’s stance stood out in a sea of people caving to the king’s demands.
Similarly, when we stand up for what’s right, we’re likely to stand out. In a setting where cheating is commonplace, we’ll stand out when we choose integrity. In a group of friends who indulge in what satisfies them in the moment, we’ll stand out when we trust God’s boundaries. In an argument where blame is thrown like grenades, we’ll stand out when we choose a calm response.
When have you recently had the choice to blend in or stand up? What’s keeping you from standing up for God in your home, workplace, or community? Spend some time in prayer, turning over any areas where you’re struggling to stand up for God. Ask Him for courage and for a friend (or group of friends) to stand with you.
