In a story of royal déjà vu, Nebuchadnezzar had a terrifying dream. Once again, he called in his astrologers, who didn’t have answers just like last time. And once again, he called in Daniel afterward, a man of God who shared truth from the heart of God. The trusted voices in Babylon couldn’t come through when it mattered, but Daniel proved that there’s a God who has spoken, is speaking, and will continue to speak.
Thousands of years later, the voices we listen to matter as well. Whether entertainment, sports, or academic experts, the world’s voices fall short of the answers that can only be found in God’s Word. Devoting ourselves to His Word is important, but so is surrounding ourselves with wise people who are also seeking after Him.
What voices are you listening to most? Reflect and pray through what comes to mind. Confess where you’ve turned to counterfeit answers, and commit to turning to God first. Ask for wise friends who can encourage you with truth from the heart of God.
