Days of small things.

Series: Atomic Habits | Week 1: Nailing Jell-O to a Tree

Read Zechariah 4:9-10 (NIV)

“The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you. Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the LORD that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?”

1. What task has God asked Zerubbabel to complete?
2. How do God’s people seem to respond to the task they’ve been given?
3. What does God say will be His response when the task is complete?

Respond
God gave Zerubbabel and the Israelites a task that, in order to be completed, would require many ‘days of small things.’ As you spend some time right now thinking about the God-given hopes and goals you have for this year, how many days of small things do you think will be required to reach them? Ask God to help you establish incremental, daily, habits that will eventually turn into big change. God rejoices in the small victories of everyday obedience.

For Families with Kids at Home
Our families’ stories will not just make up the big moments but the everyday, ordinary small things. As you reflect today about the hopes and goals you have for this year, ask God to help you stay in tune with what he is teaching your family in the ordinary moments.
