24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.” – Matthew 7:24-25 (NLT)
Learn From the Word
Jesus just finished telling His disciples that only those who do the will of His Father will enter heaven. Now He ends His Sermon on the Mount with an exhortation to go beyond simply hearing everything He's just taught them. It is the person who hears and does what Jesus teaches who's like a house built on a solid foundation. Jesus knows that only a life spent knowing, loving, and following Him will give us the foundation and strength we need to face the storms and floods of life.
Put It Into Practice
Have you gone beyond simply listening to Jesus’ teaching and begun following Him? Following looks like a life of seeking Jesus on the narrow path and walking with Him on it. It means putting His words into practice and doing what you know He’s calling you to do. Spend a few minutes now examining your own heart in this matter of following. We'll never walk in obedience perfectly this side of heaven, but by asking the Holy Spirit in us to give us strength for the journey, we'll grow and find joy in it until that glorious day when we meet Jesus face-to-face.
