Safe to Build On

Series: MasterClass | Week 11: Storm-Proof Your Life

Day Three Isaiah 28:15-16

15 You boast, “We have struck a bargain to cheat death
and have made a deal to dodge the grave.
The coming destruction can never touch us,
for we have built a strong refuge made of lies and deception.”
16 Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem,
a firm and tested stone.
It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on.
Whoever believes need never be shaken.”
– Isaiah 28:15-16 (NLT)

Learn From the Word
750 years before Jesus walked the earth, God spoke to the nation of Israel through the prophet Isaiah. God’s people had rejected Him and chosen instead to make an alliance with their enemies, thinking the alliance would give them safety, security, and peace. God reminded them that only those who build on His foundational stone will find true refuge. He describes this stone as firm, tested, precious, and safe, and this stone is Jesus Himself. God exhorted the Israelites to place their faith in Him and the promise of a coming Messiah.

Put It Into Practice
The Israelites built on “lies and deception.” We have an enemy today who would love for us to build our lives on a similar foundation. Take a few minutes to examine your own foundation. Are you trying to build on or add Jesus into a foundation of possessions, pleasure, good works, accomplishments, or the praise of other people? Confess to God anything not built on His strong foundation. Thank Him for the precious cornerstone of Jesus.
