The Transfiguration.

Series: Screen Time | Week 2: Power Down

Matthew 17:1-6
“Six days later Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone. As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light. Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with Jesus...as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.’ The disciples were terrified and fell face down on the ground.”

As we think about being transformed by the renewing of our minds from Romans 12:2 and how that happens, it’s interesting to note that word ‘transform’ is used one time in the gospels and it’s here, in the account of Jesus’ transfiguration atop a mountain. Jesus’ face ‘shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light!’ This is the transforming work of God in the life of the believer if we allow it. Screens are not evil, but they can keep us so distracted and disconnected from God, from others, and even from ourselves that we miss out on His transforming work in our lives.

Have you fallen into the trap of believing transformation happens in your life by just not doing ‘bad things’? Take some time right now to power down your technology and ask God to do a work of transformation in you, understanding it doesn’t happen all at once, but over time. Admit to Him your efforts will fall short and thank Him for the gift of the Holy Spirit to do this work in you!
