Respond
Jesus tells us in these verses that our cruel or cutting words aren’t really the problem. They are the result of the problem. The source of our words is our hearts. Spend some time right now examining yours. What do your words show about the true condition of your heart? As we enter Election Week, look in to the place where your words take shape. Ask God to help you guard your heart by examining the seeds you’re allowing to be planted and bear fruit.

For Families with Kids at Home
Consider the words you use as you communicate with your kids this week. Are they reflective of the posture of your heart? Listen to the way your kids speak and seek to understand what might be going on in their heart and help them learn how to express their emotions in a healthy way.
