Read Luke 6:37

Discover
1. Jesus gives three commands in this one verse. What reason does He give for why we should obey each one?
2. Whose actions are we to be primarily concerned with?
3. If Jesus knows we need to make judgment calls about situations and people (see John 7:24), what do you think His heart is behind the command to not judge others?

Respond
Jesus makes a distinction between judgment and condemnation and between judging and being judgmental. He wants us to take great caution with how we are judging others. Because Jesus is always concerned first about the attitude of our hearts, do a quick check of yours now. Are you considering speaking into someone’s life because you love and care about them, or are you rushing to conclusions without getting the facts? Does your heart break for the person? Can you envision your friend turning things around? Ask God to help you examine your heart.
