Remain.

Series: Dirt | Week 4: Whole-Hearted

Day Four John 15:4-5

4 ”Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. 5 Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:4-5 (NLT)

1. What do you think it looks like practically to remain in Jesus and to not remain in Him?
2. What happens when we remain in Him?
3. What can we do apart from Jesus?

Respond
The word ‘remain’ carries with it the idea of staying put or on course. Remaining sounds easy, but think about how easily you stray away from God, or how many times you turn following Him into a checklist of things to do. Sometimes remaining and being present with Jesus are the hardest things to do! Spend some time now confessing any ways you haven’t been remaining in Jesus, and then ask Him to make your heart a sustainable and consistent place where spiritual growth can take place. Ask Him to give you the persistence you need to continue.

For Families with Kids at Home
Today, pray that as your children grow and mature, that they will remain in Jesus. Pray that their primary identity and source of strength will come from Jesus and Jesus alone.
