Discover
1. Why couldn’t Jesus’ mother and brothers get to Him?
2. What two things does Jesus describe of those who are His family?
3. What does it mean to “hear God’s Word and obey it”?

Respond
In order to have a spiritually healthy heart of good soil for sustainable and consistent growth, we must receive and live out God’s Word. In this passage, Jesus says that anyone who hears and obeys God’s Word is close to Him. In other words, we draw close to God by listening to His voice through the Bible and putting it into practice. Jesus was making a surprising point that those who do so are in a closer relationship with Him than His closest relatives. Today, read God’s Word, truly hear it, and then put it into practice. Pray that the harvest you’ll see is an increase in your love for Jesus.
