Respond
After the initial call of Abram, he lived a nomadic life, faced family conflict, and grew older with lessening hope of having a biological child. This is where God meets him in today’s passage. God reminds Abram of His presence and promises. Abram doesn’t need to fear or despair because the God who called him is the same God who’s with him now.

Verse 6 is the linchpin of the story and a verse that’s repeated throughout Scripture when describing Abram: “He believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.” Abram’s faith wasn’t based on his circumstances. It was based on what he knew to be true of God.

This is the kind of faith we’re all called to live out. To believe that no matter how things look, God is with us and His promises are true. Where are you struggling to have that kind of faith? Spend some time talking with God about it now. Confess any struggles, and ask Him to fill you with a deeper faith in Him.
