Confident Courage

Series: Love and War | Week 3: Still Standing

Read 1 John 2:28-29 in your personal Bible or at the link provided.

Review
1. What term does John use to describe his readers?
2. What is the result of remaining in fellowship with Christ?
3. What attributes of God do you see in these verses?

Reflect
Throughout this week’s passage, John has emphasized that this earth is fading away. There will be antichrists (those who deny or oppose Christ), but we’re called to remain in fellowship with God, letting His Spirit guide us. All of this culminates in the moment when Jesus returns.

We will all stand before a holy God someday, but that isn’t reason to shrink back in shame. Because of our right standing as God’s children, we can be confident and bold before Him. And it all centers around abiding in Him.

In his gospel, John recorded Jesus’ words: “Remain in me, and I will remain in you… You cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me” (John 15:4). Abiding in Jesus gives us boldness, not just for the day we’ll stand before God, but for today. The world tries to lure us with its cravings. It’s full of counterfeits and those who are opposed to Christ. But in all these things, we can remain confident and courageous, knowing that we are God’s children, equipped to stand firm in a fading world.

Respond
When you think about standing before God someday, what is your initial reaction? Does it change anything about how you want to live right now?
Is there an area of your life where you’ve cut God out, wanting to handle it on your own? What would it look like to “remain in Him” in this area?
Would you say you navigate this world with confident courage? What might need to change so you can live this way, following the model of Jesus?

Pray through these questions, and write down what God is prompting you to do next. Share with a friend, and take a step to apply it.
