When Seas Are Rough

Series: For All the People | Week 1: The Fearful

Day One Mark 4:35-38

35 As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” 36 So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). 37 But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. 38 Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” (NLT)

Respond
Peace and calm are things we humans naturally desire. We work hard to pursue a life of comfort and ease, often above all else. When storms arise, we throw fits, usually looking first and foremost for the way out. What would it look like to embrace the storms of life instead? The ride won’t always be smooth, and sometimes the only way to the other side will be through. But if you are a follower of Jesus, you’re in the boat with Him and He is at peace. Cling to Him in the midst of your storm.

For Families with Kids at Home:
Sometimes challenges that seem insignificant to us can seem intimidating to our kids! Ask your kids what “storms” they’re facing in their life right now, or have faced in the past. Take time to listen and ask how they felt in the storm. Validate their feelings and encourage them that God is always with us in the storm!
