Misplaced Trust

Series: For All the People | Week 1: The Fearful

Day Two Mark 4:39-41

39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!” Mark 4:39-41 (NLT)

Respond
How do you handle fear in overwhelming circumstances? Fear is natural, but how we handle it demonstrates where we place our trust. As the disciples learned throughout their time with Jesus, nothing they faced – storms, demons, sickness, or a lack of resources – had power over Him. He is the only thing that should inspire true awe and reverent fear in us. Spend a few minutes now turning over any circumstances to God that are causing fear and overwhelm. Picture Him in His rightful place over those circumstances and place your trust in Him alone.

For Families with Kids at Home:
How do your kids usually respond to fear? Ask them about a time they were scared and how they reacted. In the verses above, we see that when the disciples are afraid and overwhelmed, they turn to Jesus, because ultimately they know He has the power to save them! The same is true for us - Jesus has the power over any and every situation we face! Encourage your kids that when they’re feeling scared or overwhelmed, they can turn to Jesus and He will give them peace!
