Read Matthew 1:21-23 and Isaiah 7:14
1. What similarities do you see in these two passages?
2. What did Jesus’ birth fulfill?
3. What is the meaning of the name “Immanuel”?
Respond
Jesus’ name means “the Lord saves.” In a time when people felt that God was distant, He showed them He was very near. Not only would people know that this child was God’s salvation brought to light, but He would also be called Immanuel which means, “God is with us.” Spend some time meditating on the meanings of these names: “the Lord saves” and “God is with us.”
