Out of Egypt.

Series: Anxious Christmas | Week 3: You Are Not Alone

Read Matthew 2:13-15 and Hosea 11:1

1. Where did the angel of the Lord tell Joseph to flee?
2. Why did he tell him this?
3. What similarities do you see in these two passages?

Respond
In the Exodus story, we see God bringing His people out of Egypt for their deliverance from slavery. The prophet Hosea referenced this piece of history as an example of God’s faithful love for His people and how they abandoned that love. However, Matthew, having seen the work and person of Jesus Christ, refers back to this prophet’s words to show that Jesus would do what Israel couldn’t. Jesus came out of Egypt for our deliverance from slavery to sin and death. Spend some time thanking God that He called His Son out of Egypt to deliver us.
