Stifling the Spirit.

Series: Let's Talk About It | Week 5: Doubt

Read John 14:16-17, 26

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth… But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

3. What do the superlative words (i.e., never, all) in these verses teach us?

Respond
The Holy Spirit lives inside every person who has placed his or her faith in Christ. He plays many roles but one of those roles is to lead us into all truth! Are you stifling the Holy Spirit by allowing your doubts to lead you to things like justifying sin, pulling away from community and church, or prayerlessness? If you find yourself walking down this path, ask God to help you let the Spirit breathe by turning to things like God’s Word, prayer, and other believers when doubts arise.

For Families with Kids at Home
Just like we need to give the Spirit room to breathe in our own lives, the same is true for our kids as well. Pay attention to your family rhythms today and how loud their lives are—what television they watch, music they listen to, etc. What’s one step you could take today to intentionally invite the Spirit into ordinary days.
