Psalm 115:1
Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.
The Psalmist asks that God’s name be glorified, not the nation’s name. He even says it twice – not to us, O Lord! As a response to the great love and faithfulness of God to their nation, the writer pleas with God for His name to be glorified, that they would not take upon themselves the glory due only Him.
When you receive applause or praise for something you excel in, is your main hope and prayer for God to receive glory in that? Are you making what you receive admiration for too much of your identity? Make a list of all the things you will do and write out how you can reflect the image of God in those things, bringing glory to His name and not your own. Ask for His help in this.
