"No," Peter protested.

Series: modgniK | Week 2: Others First

John 13:6-8
“When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to Him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.”
“No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!”
Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.”

Most of the disciples are probably uncomfortable as their leader and teacher, their Savior, comes around to wash their nasty feet. But Peter speaks up when it’s his turn. He says ‘no’ to Jesus. Jesus, perhaps speaking symbolically of the spiritual cleansing that needs to happen in the life of every person, simply tells Peter he can have no part of Jesus’ kingdom unless he is washed by Jesus.

Putting others first is great--until you’re the "other." In what area of your life are you telling Jesus ‘no’? Do you need to accept the help He offers in a broken area of your life? Talk in your group this week about where pride may be keeping you from acknowledging your need for Him.
