Reflect

What does it mean for something to be sacred? It means to be dedicated or set apart for the service or worship of God. In the Old Testament, God called His chosen people, the Israelites, to be holy. He chose them as part of His plan to redeem the whole world – through the Israelites, Jesus was born, and through Him, everyone who believes in Him has their sins washed away.

Today, all believers are set apart through Christ. As the Holy Spirit lives and works in us, we show His love and light to everyone around us. Those who don’t yet know Him should be able to see a difference in us. Understanding holiness is important to be able to understand God’s design for marriage, because our holy God created it for a purpose.

Marriage is set apart, and the rest of this week you’ll read about why it is and how you can respond. No matter your relationship status, lean in over the next few days. 1 Peter 2 says you are set apart. God can use every part of your story to bring glory to Himself.

Respond

What comes to mind when you think about something “holy” or “sacred”? How did your thinking align with, or change, based on today’s reading?

Have you viewed yourself as set apart, and why or why not? How has God used you or your story to bring glory to Himself – showing you or those around you more of His character?
