Make It Difficult.

Series: Atomic Habits | Week 3: Breaking Up With Bad Habits

Read Hebrews 12:1-2

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

Discover
1. What does the text say can get in the way and slow us down as we seek to follow Jesus?
2. What will help us run with endurance the race God has set before us?
3. How does the great cloud of witnesses (read Hebrews 11) help us fight against sin?

Respond
By responding to your sin and taking action, you make it more difficult to fall back into your bad habit. It can be quite a challenge when sin so easily trips you up, especially if it’s something that other people are doing. If you’ve learned to turn to a bad habit for help, it has become an idol and God wants to help you turn to Him instead. What are you turning to for help? How can you practically fix your eyes on Jesus every day? Pray that you can keep your eyes fixed on Him, for He is faithful to deliver you from temptation.
