Faith and deeds.

Series: The Gospel of Luke: Strengthened in Spirit | Week 5: Storm Proof

Read James 2:14-20

Discover
1. What do the people James is addressing say about themselves (verses 14 and 19)?
2. What do their actions say about them (verses 15-16)?
3. How do you fit the truth of verse 17 with the truth of this verse from the book of Ephesians?

Respond
Neither Jesus nor James are trying to say we’re saved through our obedience or our works. But they’re very clear that our faith is proved genuine through the fruit that’s displayed in our lives. Is your life marked by the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? Confess to God now the places where you’ve fallen short, and thank Him for the gift of forgiveness and grace to move forward.

For Families with Kids at Home
Pray over your kids today, asking God to make them more aware of their actions and how they can show love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Look for opportunities to celebrate your kids when they live these out.
