Do what it says.

Series: The Gospel of Luke: Strengthened in Spirit | Week 5: Storm Proof

Read James 1:22-25

Discover
1. In Luke 6, Jesus used the analogy of a house with no foundation. What analogy does James use to describe someone who listens to God’s Word and doesn’t obey?
2. How is God’s Word like a mirror in our lives?
3. What does James say God’s Word (the perfect law) does for us in verse 25?

Respond
Have you ever fooled yourself by reading something in your Bible or hearing something in a sermon and then thinking you’ve ‘checked that box’ of religious duty? Ask God to help you see His word for what James calls it – something perfect that has the power to set you free. Look into it carefully and then ask the Holy Spirit to help you carry out what He reveals through it.

For Families with Kids at Home
Today, pick a time to read James 1:22-25 as a family and talk about the blessings that come with doing what God’s word says. Explain to your kids that when we obey God’s word it not only brings us blessings, but it also helps us build a firm foundation when storms come.
