  2. How does Colossians describe Him?
  3. What was His role in creation with God?

Reflect

Jesus describes Himself in three ways. He is the Amen, the assurance of God’s promises. He is the faithful and true witness, able to see everything clearly. And He is the beginning of God’s creation. Jesus wasn’t created by God; the word “beginning” means the “initiator.” Colossians 1 explains that it was through Jesus and for Jesus that God created all things.

Why is what we believe important? Because Jesus is the foundation, or beginning, of it all. We need a Savior, and the only way to God is through Jesus’ death and resurrection. He paid the price for our sins, suffering in an unbelievable display of love, all to offer us forgiveness. He is able to sympathize with us, can be trusted, and is worthy to be praised.

Have you put your faith in Jesus? He is the only one who can bring you from death to life. Before the beginning of creation, He knew your name. If you’ve fallen asleep to the person of Jesus, His majesty, His power, and His sovereignty, let this be your wake-up call to return to His presence with gratitude and worship.

Respond

  • What comes to mind when you think of Jesus? Is anything different after today’s reading?
  • Which aspect of His character are you most grateful for in your current season of life? Spend some time in prayer thanking Him for who He is.
  • How does creation remind you of God? How can you spend more time noticing His creation around you, letting Him show Himself to you through what He has made?

Pray through these questions, and write down what God is prompting you to do next. Share with a friend, and take a step to apply it.
