Giving God credit.

Genesis 41:41-43
“Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘I hereby put you in charge of the entire land of Egypt.’ Then Pharaoh removed his signet ring from his hand and placed it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in fine linen clothing and hung a gold chain around his neck. Then he had Joseph ride in the chariot reserved for his second-in-command. And wherever Joseph went, the command was shouted, ‘Kneel down!’ So Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of all Egypt.”

God has brought Joseph from a life of slavery and imprisonment to one of great national prominence. Thirteen years ago this kind of attention would have fed Joseph’s pride and puffed up his own sense of greatness. God has used the fire of those thirteen years to refine Joseph’s character.

Respond in Prayer
Spend some quiet time with God right now, thinking through your daily life. In what areas are you most tempted to take credit for your successes, achievements or even gifts that’s He’s given you? Turn those things over to Him, confess, and ask for His help in remembering where to always give credit. See here for further reading. 

For Families with Kids at Home
Today, spend some time before God praying for your kid(s). Ask him to help them develop in humility, and that their character would grow in the midst of difficulty so that they would receive blessings with a heart of gratitude, not entitlement.
