The Wonder of His Love.

Series: Easter with Traders Point | Week 1: Holy Week

Day Four Read John 18:15-27

*This week we’re looking at Jesus’ last days on earth, as told in the book of John. As we reflect, use the power of your imagination to enter in to these stories this Holy Week. Allow yourself to experience the wonder of Jesus again.*

“Peter had to stay outside the gate. Then the disciple who knew the high priest spoke to the woman watching at the gate, and she let Peter in. The woman asked Peter, ‘You’re not one of that man’s disciples, are you?’ ‘No,’ he said, ‘I am not.’ . . . Meanwhile, as Simon Peter was standing by the fire warming himself, they asked him again, ‘You’re not one of his disciples, are you?’ He denied it, saying, ‘No, I am not.’ But one of the household slaves of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, ‘Didn’t I see you out there in the olive grove with Jesus?’ Again Peter denied it. And immediately a rooster crowed.” John 18:16-17, 25-27 (NLT)

Discover
1. While Jesus is being interrogated inside the gate, what is happening to Peter outside the gate?
2. How many times does Peter deny being a disciple of Jesus?
3. Read Jesus’ words to Peter earlier in the day here. What did Jesus already know?

Respond
The story of Peter reminds us of the way we should approach Jesus – in complete humility, knowing there is nothing we can do to ‘clean up our act’ to make us more acceptable to him. Jesus loved Peter and went to the cross for him, fully knowing Peter would deny Him that very night. Thank God now for loving you despite your failures and in the midst of them. Approach Him humbly now in wonder and in worship of a God who loves like this.
