The tension between grace and truth.

Series: Asking for a Friend | Week 4: Messy Grace

John 1:14
So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

John 1:17
For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.

When it comes to grace and truth, we usually fall on one side or the other. You’re either all about grace or all about truth. You’re all about compassion or all about conviction. You’re either someone who doesn’t understand why someone would care if two people of the same gender got married, or you believe that marriage was designed to be between a man and a woman.

It can be difficult or awkward to live in the tension of showing grace and showing truth. We may not always get it right, but we can do our best to follow Jesus’ example of being full of grace and truth. Love is the tension between grace and truth.

This week in your groups, share where it might be hard for you to love and live in the tension between grace and truth. Ask God for help in following Jesus’ example, consistently showing grace and truth to people in your life.
