John 8:9-11
When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
“No, Lord,” she said.
And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
Jesus was gracious when people thought he should be truthful and he was truthful when people thought he should be gracious. One thing is clear: Jesus never compromised on grace or truth.
If we’re going to be criticized for anything, may it be for what Jesus was criticized for—loving people that no one else would and loving God relentlessly.
God loves messy people! God’s perfect grace combined with our messy lives is what messy grace is.
Thank God today for messy grace! His perfect grace for our mess isn’t fair—grace isn’t fair—and that is something to praise him for today. He loves messy people and will do whatever it takes, even dying on a cross, to show us just how much he loves us!
