  1. What does Psalm 139:16 say about God?
  2. How does Ephesians 2:10 describe us?
  3. What did God plan for us?

Reflect

Scripture says God created work as a part of a perfect world, and He created it to be satisfying as a gift to His people. These verses continue to build the picture of work by declaring that God made everyone with great intentionality and planned good things to do in advance.

God cares for all of us, and He gave us all a calling on our lives. God calls us masterpieces, and He has redeemed us through Jesus in order to make a difference. What every one of us wants, deep down, is that sense that we’ve found not just a career but a calling, that we’re doing what God made us for. He planned out our callings long before we were born. He was at the beginning, not us, so we’ll never be able to find our calling apart from Him.

God has uniquely made you, and he has planned out in advance good things for you to do. If you’re in a job that’s unfulfilling, or if you aren’t sure where to go next, remember that God has gone before you and is with you every step of the way.

Respond

  • How do these passages compare or contrast with your current view of God? And of yourself?
  • Looking back on your life, can you think of a time when it was clear – now that you have perspective – that God had a plan for you and was in control? How does that give you hope for future plans that haven’t happened yet?
  • Who in your life can you encourage with the truth of God’s planning for us, even before He created us?

Pray through these questions, and write down what God is prompting you to do next. Share with a friend, and take a step to apply it.
