Proverbs 18:10
“The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to Him and are safe.”
God is a strong fortress for us to run to in the midst of our fears, our worry, our stress and our anxiety. This fortress is rooted in the name of the Lord—the wholeness of His character, His nature, His attributes. Throughout the Bible, God most often revealed His various names to His people as they needed them. When they faced uncertainty, God revealed one of His names so that they could know Him and the power He could provide more fully.
Respond in Prayer
Take a minute to acknowledge God using some of His names, pausing to think about each one: the Lord who heals, who brings peace, who is there, the everlasting God, the Most High God, Master, our Righteousness, our provider, our Shepherd, the Lord God Almighty. Adore Him and run to Him. Share with someone, ways you’ve experienced God’s attributes in one or more of these names and where you need to trust Him more.
For Families with Kids at Home
If you’ve been trying to be the strong fortress instead of letting God take that rightful place in your home, confess that to God and hand it over to Him. Let Him be strong when you feel weak and out of control. If you’ve been leaning on a spouse or a child to be strong in place of God, confess that to him/her, and give it back to God. Remember: only God can give you what you truly need.
