Take a humble position.

Series: Good News! | Week 3: Living on Purpose

Read Philippians 2:5-11
“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

1. List all the ways Christ set the ultimate example for us in the areas of humility and unity.
2. How did God respond to Jesus’s obedience?
3. What is the end of the story that God has already given to us?

1. For Jesus, His humiliation led to His exaltation. In what areas of your life may you be longing for exaltation while attempting to forego the humiliation? Ask God to grow in you Jesus’s attitude of humility, knowing it goes hand in hand with exaltation.
2. Reread these verses and put yourself in Jesus’s place. Thank Him for everything He went through because of His love for you and all of humanity. Ask God to fill you with a sense of awe for this extreme act of love and mercy.
