Read Matthew 28:18-20

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (NLT)

1. What authority did Jesus say He was given?
2. What actions did He tell His disciples to take?
3. What could they be assured of as they did these things?

Respond
These verses are referred to as the Great Commission – the call of all Jesus followers to make disciples. The first action word in these verses is, “Go.” It’s a simple yet clear command that while we’re called to gather with other believers, we’re also called to scatter. The church has always been a sending, multiplying movement. This means going out into our neighborhoods, communities, and throughout the world to serve others and share the reason for the hope that we have.

That’s our desire as a church, and you’re a critical part of that mission. We’re each called to go and make disciples, not only baptizing them but also teaching them what it looks like to obey God. How can you do that? Here are some next steps:

How You Can Pray
Praise God for being present everywhere you go and for inviting you to be part of His mission to make disciples. Ask for eyes to see the people around you and for courage to speak and serve where He calls you.

What You Can Do
Write down names of people you’re currently investing in as young or future disciples. If the list is short or empty, ask God to reveal names of people He’s placed around you who need a disciple maker in their life.
