Discover
1. Who is the primary focus of Hannah’s prayer in these verses?
2. What traits and actions does Hannah thank God for?
3. Based on everything you’ve read of Hannah this week (1 Samuel 1), how does this prayer line up with who she was and how she related to God?

Respond
Hannah had just given up the son that God gave her, and her next step was praise. All throughout Hannah’s life, we see a faithfulness and devotion to God, no matter what was happening to her or around her. The focus of her prayer in these verses wasn’t the treasured son she prayed for; it was the God who gave her the son. She praised Him for making her strong, rescuing her from her enemies, reversing her circumstances, and being in control of heaven and earth.

When is the last time you paused to praise God? No matter what’s going on in your life, good or bad, there’s reason to praise Him. Take some time now to do just that. Reflect on how God has strengthened you, rescued you, reversed circumstances in your life, and reminded you that He’s in control. Be specific and thank Him for all that He’s done.
