The recipients of Peter’s letter were displaced, but they were reminded of all the reasons they could look ahead with joy and hope. One of those reasons was the salvation of their souls. Today’s passage not only explains the sacrifice of Jesus’ suffering and the salvation it would bring, but also the wonder and privilege of experiencing it firsthand.

Thousands of years ago, prophets were given glimpses of the Messiah. Now in Peter’s day and our day as well, we can receive His salvation for ourselves. Jesus not only suffered, but He was raised to life, all so we can have hope for this life and the next. It’s a privilege so huge that even the angels in heaven are eagerly watching.

Have you fully grasped the wonder of Jesus’ sacrifice for you? How does it change the way you act and think as you interact with the world around you? Take some time now to thank God for allowing you to live in this time in history. Thank Him for His sacrifice, and let Him renew your wonder.
