In view of God’s mercy.

Series: Screen Time | Week 1: Glowing Rectangles

Romans 12:1
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Using fear or shame is not a very effective way to change behavior and it’s never been an effective way to begin or sustain a relationship with God. The best motivation for changing behavior is exactly what this verse tells us – ‘in view of God’s mercy’. Because God has been so loving and gracious and kind to us, let that inform how we live. Because of His mercy, we can and should take every area of our life now and offer it to God so that it is pleasing to Him.

Are there any areas of your life that you have made ‘off limits’ to God, including the amount of time you spend looking at a screen? How might you need to change your motivation behind behavior modification to God’s mercy rather than God’s anger or judgement? Take a minute now to ask God what area of your life He still needs to be Lord of and, in view of His mercy, hand it over to Him.
