God Cares About Your Response

Series: Deconstruct | Reconstruct | Week 3: Why Does God Care Who I Sleep With?

Read 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 in your personal Bible or at the link provided.

Review
1. How are we supposed to respond to sexual sin?
2. Why are we told to do this?
3. How are our bodies described in these verses?

Reflect
Paul had addressed common lines of thinking in the Corinthian culture when it comes to sex. In today’s verses, he gets right to the point of what to do in the face of sexual temptation. He says, “RUN!” Everywhere else in Scripture, we’re told to resist sin, but Paul says sexual sin is different. Its consequences are devastating; therefore, our response needs to be more extreme.

Our culture today encourages people to immerse themselves in their sexual instincts – to throw off the “shackles of repressive morality” and embrace their impulses as a way to personal freedom and fulfillment. Satan is hard at work, trying to convince us this is true, but God’s Word says the opposite.

God doesn’t want to hinder your sex life. He wants to enhance it. He wants you to have the best sex ever! If Satan comes to your door with the lies of culture, fight him with faith because “greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). You are no match for sexual temptation. When it comes, don’t flirt with it. Flee!

Respond
What is your typical response when sexual temptation comes? Have you ever flirted with it rather than fleeing?
Is there anything you need to confess to God in this area? How about to someone else who has been impacted by your choices?
Where and when are you most likely to struggle with sexual sin? What safeguards can you set up to run from it?

Pray through these questions, and write down what God is prompting you to do next. Share with a friend, and take a step to apply it.
