Considering Ourselves Properly

Series: Recalibrate | Week 6: Identities Shaped by Grace

Day Two Romans 6:6-11

Pray: Invite God into your time and ask Him to speak to you, then read the passage.

6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. 8 And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. 9 We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. 10 When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. 11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. – Romans 6:6-11 (NLT)

For Families with Kids at Home:
When Adam and Eve first sinned by disobeying God in the Garden of Eden, they introduced the curse of sin to all of humanity. As a result, ALL of us struggle with sin because all of us disobey God, in big ways and small ways. But when Jesus came along and completely obeyed God by living a perfect life and taking our punishment on the cross, He broke the curse and made us free! So because Jesus beat both death and sin, He gives us the same power. We can now choose to do the right thing instead of sinning, and we can live with God forever in heaven. Take time to pray with your kids and thank Jesus that He beat sin and gives us the power to do the same.
