1. What events prompted Paul and Silas to end up in prison?
2. What was their physical state when they were thrown there?
3. What did the other prisoners hear them do?
Reflect
Paul and Silas healed a demon-possessed girl, which landed them behind bars. Not only were they thrown in prison, they were severely beaten beforehand. Their circumstances were anything but hospitable, but that didn’t stop them from worshiping God. They didn’t wish away their circumstances. They brought God into them. As a result, their hospitable presence showed the other prisoners who God really is.
So often we can wish away a hard season or circumstance. But even when we’re not in a hospitable place, we can bring God with us. We can worship Him and make a difference no matter where we are. As a result, the environment that’s created through worship can become a place where strangers come to know and experience the love of Jesus. People are watching. And our response may be what invites them in.
Are you wishing away a hard season right now? What would it look like to bring God into it with you? No matter where you are today, how can you build in the habit of praying and worshiping God for who He is?
