Day Three Matthew 5:25-26
25 “When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison. 26 And if that happens, you surely won’t be free again until you have paid the last penny.” – Matthew 5:25-26 (NLT)
Learn From the Word
Jesus tells us to settle disputes with others quickly. According to His analogy, tragic consequences await those who choose to live with bitterness, anger, and unforgiveness. On a human level, we end up in a prison of our own making. On a spiritual level, the sinner who remains unreconciled to God faces an eternal prison. Jesus’ point is clear. He desires that broken things be made whole and that His followers be marked by freedom and peace.
Put It Into Practice
Reconciliation to God and others is only accomplished through the blood of Jesus. It is only through the transforming work that He does in our hearts that we have the power to be released from every ounce of anger that lives inside of us. If your life feels ruled by anger, cry out to God right now. Tell Him you no longer want to be imprisoned by it and ask Him to release you into freedom and wholeness.
For Families with Kids at Home
Jesus tells us that when we wrong someone, we should hurry to make things right. Encourage your kids that it’s never too early or too late to apologize and make things right when we hurt someone. Jesus helps us fix our broken relationships!
