1. How does Jesus describe Himself and God the Father?
2. What does Jesus command us to do?
3. What can we do apart from Him?
Reflect
This week, we read Jesus’ call for the Ephesians to remember their first love. Today we see what this looks like. If we want to get out of our “sleepy” state, we have to remain in Him. Without Jesus, the church is meaningless. With Jesus, we’re His light in a hopeless world. Apart from Him we can do nothing.
The call is to be so connected to Him that we can’t help but burn for Him. When we’re consumed by His love, His presence changes us and His light shines through us. We can’t produce fruit if we’re not connected to Him. We can’t do anything if we don’t remain in Him.
Have you found yourself wandering from God, letting your love grow cold? He wants you back. Have you never received Him in the first place? He wants you now! For those who remain in Him, a harvest is promised – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Let this be your new beginning. Remember your first love, and remain in Him.
Respond
• Would you say your life is connected to the Vine/Jesus? If not, what needs to change?
• Who can you talk to about returning to Jesus or receiving Him for the first time? (If you want to talk with one of our pastors, you can reach out through our Contact Us form or by emailing info@tpcc.org.)
• Reflect on the “harvest” list above. Is there a certain area you see room for growth? What do you think is needed first to see that growth?
Pray through these questions, and write down what God is prompting you to do next. Share with a friend, and take a step to apply it.
