Series: Achilles | Week 2: The Empty Promises of Pride

Day Three Proverbs 16:5-6

5 ”The Lord detests the proud; they will surely be punished. 6 Unfailing love and faithfulness make atonement for sin. By fearing the Lord, people avoid evil.” – Proverbs 16:5-6 (NLT)

Discover
1. What is God’s perspective on “the proud”?
2. What do you think pride does to the heart?
3. According to verse 6, what is the foundation for a God-honoring life and avoiding evil?

Respond
Have you ever thought about your pride being an invitation for God to oppose you? While God has no desire to destroy us, crush us, or ruin us, not encouraging our pride is sometimes the most loving thing God can do for us! Reflect and meditate on Proverbs 16:6. What does it look like for you practically to fear the Lord? Throughout your day today, ask God to show you what a healthy fear of Him looks like and thank Him for His unfailing love and faithfulness that readily makes atonement for your sin.

For Families with Kids at Home
Have a conversation with your kids about pride. Ask them what they think pride means and what it looks like (for example, demanding one’s own way or refusing to obey). Then pray as a family that God would help your family to be humble when pride threatens to show up!
