Live in God

Series: Love and War | Week 5: How to Be Confident on Judgment Day

Read 1 John 4:13-16 in your personal Bible or at the link provided.

1. Why has God given us His Spirit?
2. What is the defining marker of those who declare that Jesus is the Son of God?
3. What have we put our trust in?

John continues his dialogue about love by reminding us that it’s an expression of how we live in God and God lives in us. When we acknowledge Jesus as our Savior and Lord, the Holy Spirit lives inside us. How do we know? Because we recognize the truth about Jesus, that He’s the Son of God and the Savior of the world.

When we believe in Him, we get new eyes to see and a new heart to sense our sinfulness, along with God’s glory and grace. This is what it means to live in God and for Him to live in us. It’s not only the proof that we belong to Him; it’s the power that allows us to fight the spiritual war of this world with love.

Have you taken the step to believe in Jesus, inviting Him to give you a new heart and new eyes to see? If you have, do you live with awareness of the Holy Spirit living inside of you? How can you be more intentional to listen to Him as you follow Jesus’ example of love?

Pray through today’s reading, reflecting on the questions just posed. What do you think God is prompting you to do in response? Write it down, share it with a friend, and take a step to start making it happen.
