Review

1. What did God provide for Elijah?

2. How did He speak to him?

3. What truth did He show him?

Reflect

When Elijah expressed his defeat to God, he wasn’t met with shame or disappointment for not being able to carry on. Instead, God loved him just the same, and He provided for his needs. He gave Elijah food, water, and rest, caring for his physical needs. He reminded him that he wasn’t alone in his zeal for the Lord. And He showed him how intimately close He was – He spoke to him in a whisper.

When we ask God to move for us, do we automatically expect Him to show up in a windstorm or fire? If we’re only looking for Him in one place, we might miss out on seeing other ways He wants to work. We shouldn’t forget that He’s both the Creator of the universe and the God who knit us together (Psalm 139:13).

No matter what kind of valley you face, God is the same today as He was when He cared for Elijah. He’ll take care of you, too. Nothing is too big or too small for Him to notice and know how to guide you through.

Respond

How are you doing in each of the areas that God addressed for Elijah: your physical, mental, relational, and spiritual health? Spend some time in prayer thanking God for His care for you and bringing these areas of your well-being to Him. Is there one area that needs addressed? What one thing might God be asking you to do to take care of yourself?
