Day Four Matthew 7:6
6 “Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.” – Matthew 7:6 (NLT)
Learn From the Word
Jesus later compares the kingdom of heaven to a pearl of great value and issues a warning to His disciples here to be discerning with it. Pigs and people who are unholy are a reference to unbelievers who malign the gospel to the point of holding you in contempt for continuing to share it with them. The gospel and the message of the kingdom of heaven are something we should treasure. We need to rightly judge the true character of others we interact with about it.
Put It Into Practice
Spend some time now asking God to give you proper discernment about how you interact and what you share with the people around you. While we're certainly called to share the gospel with everyone, there may come a point where we're doing more harm than good. Prayer is always our best weapon, for our own hearts and the hearts of those around us.
For Families with Kids at Home
There's a time and a place to talk to someone about Jesus. If someone isn’t ready to hear about Jesus yet, pray for them! Ask your kids about someone in their life who needs to hear about Jesus but might not be ready to talk just yet. Commit to pray with them about that person.
